Senator Marshall Applauds NASA's $2 Million Investment in Wichita State University Space Research

U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. issued the following statement after the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced $2 million in funding for neutrino detector research at Wichita State University.

"Wichita State University has a long history of partnering with NASA to advance national research and development goals," said U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. "Dr. Solomey's work leverages the experimental high energy physics resources of WSU to better understand the nature of neutrinos and the broader universe around us."

Background:

Professor Nickolas Solomey of Wichita State University is receiving a $2 million Phase III NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts grant. This funding from the NASA INNOVATIVE ADVANCED CONCEPTS (NIAC) program will allow Professor Solomey to continue his earth-based neutrino detector study over the next two years. Neutrinos are one of the most abundant particles in the universe, but are challenging to study because they rarely interact with matter. If successful, his project could enable NASA to better understand the structure of our Sun and our galaxy, having impacts in the fields of nuclear and particle physics, as well as astrophysics.
